When Is Amazon Prime Day 2022 in the USA?

Prime Day 2022 is scheduled for July 12-13. According to Amazon, deals will be available to Amazon Prime members in over 20 countries around the globe. This big two-day sales period has become one of the busiest times on Amazon for sellers and buyers alike.

Prime Day 2022 Timeline

Consider this timeline when preparing for Prime Day 2022.

What Is Prime Day and When Did It Start?

Prime Day actually started as a way to celebrate Amazon's 20th birthday. The first Prime Day happened on July 15, 2015. For one day only, Amazon Prime members in nine countries (United States, the UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria) were treated to deals on products from big brands and smaller businesses in a variety of categories. The goal of the first ever Amazon Prime Day was to create a "global shopping event" and offer Prime members the best deals of the year.

While not every Prime Day has proven to be a record-breaking success, this flash sales period has been on the rise for the past few years.

Last year's numbers show just how Amazon Prime Day is growing. This report in Variety revealed that Prime Day 2021 generated $6.8 billion in gross sales, which is an estimated increase of 9% from previous years. What's more is that approximately half of last year's revenue went to third-party sellers just like you, so that's just another reason why it's important to prepare for a successful Prime Day this year.

What Are the Best Prime Day Deals?

During Prime Day, sellers have the opportunity to snag some amazing deals on products from the latest in consumer electronics, home goods, appliances, toys & games, and so much more.

Much like Black Friday/Cyber Monday and the December Holiday period, Amazon Prime Day is when shoppers can go online to get the best deals on some of the most sought-after products of the year. From the latest iPhone to a Roomba vacuum, Amazon unlocks some of the best deals to Prime members during this 48-hour sales period.

And this year, Amazon’s FBA sellers like you have a chance to grab some of those sales and increase your profit margins.

11 Seller Tips for Amazon Prime Day 2022

Don't leave your Prime Day prep to the last minute - take some time this week to get your Amazon store ready for one of the biggest sales periods of the calendar year. From checking the competition’s prices to preparing your sales coupons, here are our top tips to help Amazon FBA sellers prepare for Prime Day 2022.

Firstly, be sure to submit your Prime Exclusive Discounts on July 8th to Amazon (see the image of the timeline above). Then, these next tips are for you.

1. Get your inventory shipments to the FBA fulfillment center by June 20th

The sooner, the better.

2. Are you eligible to create Prime deals?

Check the list of eligibility criteria for Prime Exclusive Discounts and see if your discount plan for Prime Day fits the bill. This list will tell you how to meet the requirements set by Amazon for special events like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Prime Day.

3. On another note, make sure your store follows Amazon’s guidelines to participate in Prime Day 2022

For starters, you must have at least a 4 Seller Feedback Ratings from buyers. The products that can compete in Amazon's Prime Day event must also have at least a three and a half star rating or no rating.

4. Create a marketing plan (and budget) specifically for Prime Day

We suggest increasing your Amazon advertising budget by a certain % so that you don't run out of ad spend too early on Prime Day and get crushed by the competition.

5. Optimize your PPC ads

You don't necessarily have to up your ad budget on Prime Day for all of your product listings, but only with some of your top selling products and best performing keywords so that you remain competitive on this potentially lucrative sales period.

6. Promote your Prime Day deals now

It's never too early to build up the hype and get the word out about your Prime Day sales. Get that copy written and use your social media channels (and whatever outlet you use to promote your Amazon FBA business) to spread the word about the amazing deals you'll be offering to Amazon Prime members this year.

7. Check Lightning Deals prices

On the days leading up to Prime Day, check in with the Lightning Deals dashboard for the qualifying deals and see if your competition has any in stock and what the prices are.

8. Price competitively

Use that pricing and availability information to adjust your own prices in your product listings to be competitive for the Prime Day sales period.

9. Prepare your sales coupons ahead of time

To be ready for Prime Day, it's best to have your coupons prepared and ready to go live at least a few days before. If you have an Amazon virtual assistant, this would be a good task to give them. Expert VA’s can help you with your sales coupon copy, images, and anything else you might need for a successful coupon deal.

10. Optimize your Amazon store listings

It's always a good idea to refresh your personal marketplace every month or so, and Prime Day is another key period during the year when sellers should have their store updated. Check your keywords, optimize your product images and videos

11. Product inserts

On top of increased sales, Amazon Prime Day is another great opportunity to build brand awareness. Product inserts are always a great way to add that extra touch and build a connection with your new customers. So in your Prime Day prep this year, think of and create a unique product insert to add to your shipments.
